Professional Development Services
The professional development services include collaboration with the Center for Child Care Career Development to provide registered and certified training for early childhood educators can meet their yearly required Department of Social Services Child Care Licensing hours on a wide-range of topic areas. On-site customized trainings to meet specific program needs are also available upon request. The following is training areas available but not limited to:
- Planning a safe and healthy learning environment (safety, health, nutrition, space planning, materials, equipment)
- Steps to advance children's physical and intellectual development (large and small muscle, language, literacy, discovery, art, music)
- Positive ways to support children's social an emotional development (self-esteem, independence, self-control, socialization)
- Strategies to establish productive relationships with families (parent involvement, home visits, conferences, referrals)
- Strategies to manage an effective program operation (planning, record keeping, reporting)
- Maintaining a commitment to professionalism (advocacy, ethical practices, work force issues, professional associations)
- Observing and recording children's behavior (tools and strategies for objective information collection)
- Principles of child development and learning (developmental milestones from 0-5, cultural influences on development)
Early Childhood Education On-Site Technical Assistance
Early childhood education programs contact CCR&R and request on-site early childhood education technical assistance. There are 3 basic types of on-site technical assistance available:
- Observation and assessment visits to observe and assess the quality of an early childhood program such as, using the environmental rating scale (ITERS, ECERS, FCCER, SACERS).

Supporting and mentoring visits to assist in the development and implementation of program quality improvement and professional development plans.

Monitoring visits collaboration with licensing/monitoring agency to assess how a program is meeting objectives and time line for quality improvements plans.
Family, Friend, Neighbor (FFN) Community Outreach
The FFN community outreach includes a mobile outreach unit that is available with resources, literacy development materials and adult/child activity kits for early childhood educators and parents.
Early Learning Standards Resource Library
The Early Learning Standards Resource Library uses the South Carolina Early Learning Standards as a model for the development of the library materials. The library supports the school readiness of young children through books, resources, videos, research, and hands-on early childhood education materials.
Parent Support Services
The parent support services provide early childhood education trainings for families on a wide-range of topics. Parent support services include customized trainings that meet a specific requirement of a community organization or agency such as Workforce Development and High School Teen Parent Program. School-Age Quality Improvement Development
School-Age programs contact CCR&R and request on-site technical assistance in the area of support and mentoring visits to assist in the development and implementation of quality improvement.
Youth Volunteer Program
School District High School youth who are participating in the Pre-Trial Intervention program at the South Carolina Juvenile Justice System are assigned to volunteer at CCR&R for a designated time period. The youth receive mentoring, on-the-job training and positive guidance from CCR&R staff members.
Family Child Care Networks
A collaboration with the family child care networks in the CCR&R county service areas. The family child care networks bring together family child care providers for socializing, networking, peer mentoring, and grassroots leadership development on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.
Child Care Referrals
Parents receive a list of child care referrals to early childhood education programs that meet their family’s needs including preferred type of care, location, operating hours, costs, licensing information and many other program features. CCR&R staff maintain early childhood programs vacancy information so parents receive a child care referrals of programs that have reported a vacancy.
Military Enhanced Child Care Referrals
Military parents receive a list of child care referrals to early childhood education programs that meet their family’s needs. CCR&R staff verifies the early childhood program vacancy before parents receive child care referrals. The Military enhanced child care referrals is a collaboration program with the National Child Care Resource & Referral Agency to assist military families in finding quality child care. In addition, there is child care assistance available for military families.
Infant-Toddler Enhanced Child Care Referrals
Infant/toddler parents receive a list of child care referrals to early
childhood education programs that meet their family’s needs. CCR&R
staff verifies the early childhood program vacancy before parents
receive child care referrals.
Internet Child Care Referrals
Parents receive a list of child care referrals to early childhood education programs that meet their family’s needs by conducting their own internet child care referral search on the CCR&R Web site.
Early Childhood Education Program Marketing Services
Early childhood education program marketing services available include maintaining and updating early childhood programs program specific data on the CCR&R’s National Association Child Care Resources & Referral Agency database (NACCRRAware). Early childhood programs receive technical assistance regarding marketing, small business management, and tax training.
Crisis Child Care Fund
The crisis child care fund is available to enable families to move closer to self-sufficiency, support parents re-entering the workforce, and families in transition. The parents complete a crisis child care application, monthly budget guide, and participate in a family budget planning session to explore options for affordable child care and household budget planning.
Employee Workplace Lunch & Learn
The workplace lunch & learn will provide employees at local businesses with child care resource and referral information. Parent support services and early childhood education workshops available during lunch & learns sessions. In addition, the lunch & learn can address the wide-range of benefits for an employer to develop a “family-friendly work place.
